John Jones Obituary

JONES ADVANCE - Mr. John Wade Jones, Fork Bixby Road, 86, died early Saturday morning, July 18, 2009, at home after a brief illness. He was born February 20, 1923, in Davie County to the late Alex Lillington and Hannah Bertha Foster Jones. He retired after 32 years with Hanes Knitwear and was a life-time member of Fork Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and was on the grounds committee. He was one of the founders and charter members of Fork Fire Department and one of the founders of Fork Civic club. He was an avid fan of baseball, as well as a player of more than 20 years with the Fork Baseball League. He had a passion for farming which included tobacco, cotton and produce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Grubb Jones; six brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild. Survivors: his wife, Doris Williams Jones of the home; a son, Jerry Jones (Sherri) Advance; a daughter, Linda Jones Rabon (David) of Advance; four grandchildren, Jeffery Leonard, Michael, Brian, Jeremy Jones; a great-grandson, Lance Jones; and a step-daughter, Carla Prevette (Tim); two step-sons, Carlos Williams, Jr. (Tammy), Brian Williams (Shannon), all of Mocksville; six step-grandchildren, Ashlee Prevette, Zach Prevette and Courtney Prevette, Chase Lowe, Hannah Williams and Hayden Williams; one brother, Ray Jones (Eva) of Advance; and two sisters, Addie Mae Walser of Advance and Magalene Stroud of Forest City, NC. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Fork Baptist Church, with the Pastor Robert Garrett and Mr. Jones' s great-nephew, Interim Pastor, Adam Ridenhour officiating. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends, Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eaton Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be considered for Fork Baptist Cemetery Fund, 3140 US 64 E., Mocksville, NC 27028 or Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 377 Hospital St., Suite 103, Mocksville, NC 27028. My special prayers to the family. I have many fond memories of Uncle Wade as a young boy and teenager and seemed he was always nearby when visiting papaw Jones (Fred)...
