Joye Beckner Obituary

Joye Beckner sadly passed away in the early hours of February 1, 2025. Joye was born in Winston-Salem, NC, to James Ernest Wolfe and Esther Mae Shepherd. Joye grew up in Winston-Salem with her parents and her five siblings, Ernestine Cline, David Wolfe, Lynn Foltz, Marie Echols and Dennis Wolfe.
In October of 1958, Joye married the love of her life L.J. Beckner, they lived happily in their family farmhouse on Fraternity Church Road in Winston-Salem where they raised four children, Donna Boyles, Lawrence "Butch" Beckner, Brian Beckner and Angie Richard. Joye spent her days working as a teacher's aide at Wiley Middle School also assisting many years at Salem Pregnancy. Joye loved spending her life as a devoted wife and a mother. Those who knew Joye knew she had a very strong relationship with God and was proud to share it with others. Joye was a proud and active member of Faith Church in Winston-Salem, NC.
Joye was preceded in death by her beloved husband, L.J, for whom she was married for 56 years; sons, Butch and Brian; sisters, Ernestine and Lynn; and brother, David. Joye is survived by her daughters, Donna Boyles and husband, Pat and daughter, Angie Richard and her husband, Chris; six grandsons; one granddaughter; five great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
The family will be receiving friends from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Fraternity Church of the Brethren in Winston-Salem, NC, 3760 Fraternity Church Road. There will be no formal service.

I knew Joye from Clemmons Village. She was a wonderful person. She always had her Bible. We often talked about God and His word. I will miss her.

Joye was an inspiration to me from the moment I met her when volunteering at Salem Pregnancy. She was our prayer intercessor and so I gave her my prayer requests for clients who came to Salem Pregnancy but also to pray for me as I was going through some challenges. Joye pointed me to Scripture that praising God, even in trials, works miracles in numerous ways! As usual, Joy was correct and this changed my life. I loved Joye and am thankful God put that precious Christ-follower in my path. Donna, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I can imagine Joye hearing Christ's words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
