May 13, 1943 - February 21, 2021

HAMPTONVILLE - Lester Allen King went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 21, 2021, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. Allen was born May 13, 1943 in Hamptonville to the late Miles and DeEtte Riley King, where he lived his entire life. He married Shirley Cox on June 22, 1969 and to that union 2 sons were born, Jonathan (Angie) King and Stephen (Tamara) King. He was a lifelong member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where he served the church faithfully as a deacon, choir member, and was a grandfather figure to the one-year-old Sunday School Class for more than 30 years. During many of those years, he rode the Wednesday-night kids church van. Allen was an enthusiastic bike rider, traveling many miles. One of his greatest loves was raising collie dogs, for which he was well known throughout the country, even to the West Coast. Allen is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Cox King; sons, Jonathan (Angie) King, Stephen (Tamara) King; his beloved granddaughter, Kendra (Brandon); grandchildren by marriage, Denver, Lauren, Dallas, Quinn, Landon and Lacey; his brothers, Leo (Katie) King, Jack King; several nieces, nephews, a great number of friends, especially his best and loyal friend, Ronnie Swaim. In addition to his parents, Allen was also preceded in death by his siblings, Evaline, Jimmy, Mary Lou, Patsy, and Archie. The family will receive friends from 5- 8 PM Tuesday and from 1-2 PM Wednesday at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hamptonville. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Mountain View Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Tucker and Rev. Linwood Campbell. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Mountain View Baptist Church Youth Fund, 1232 Mountain View Church Road, Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family would like to express their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and the SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin for all the loving care provided to them. As a past coworker, one thing I remember about Allen was his ability to communicate with people using his smile and friendly personality. His gentle demeanor and sense of humor also stands out as someone you enjoyed spending time around. As I view the video, it's evident that he loved his family. He clearly has given his children and grandchildren memories that they will cherish forever.

I am very sorry to hear about Allen's passing. He was my friend and we had some great times riding bicycles on the Creeper Trail and the New River Trail. Laughed until my sides hurt. Those trips were a lot more fun than working in the tobacco fields with him in our younger days. He was a great person. My family, and me especially, will miss him.

Allen was a great guy, he may have gotten one of his first collie dogs from me and Marsha, he later on raised all types of collies, later on I lost my collie to a accident, I called Allen and told him to save me one from his next litter, and call me when the puppy was old enough to leave, it wasn't too long and he had me back in business
