KERNERSVILLE - Linda Gail Smith Hucks, 57, of 305 Caswell Kern Road, Kernersville, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 1, 1948, in Alamance County, a daughter of the late Malvin Richmond Smith and Ruby Wagoner Smith. Most of her 30-year teaching career was at Kernersville Elementary School. The first years were with Jim Fitzpatrick and the later years with David Fitzpatrick. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Hucks, in 1997. Surviving are her stepmother, Aileen W. Smith, of Burlington; two sons, Jeffrey Shaun Hucks and Stephen James Hucks, both of Kernersville; two brothers, Kenneth Lee Smith of Whiteville and Jimmy Wayne Smith of Burlington; two stepsisters, Carla Jean Gaddy and Brenda Joy Dodson of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Kernersville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. W. Paul Riggs Sr. and David Fitzpatrick officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Kernersville First Baptist Church. Memorials may be directed to Forsyth Regional Cancer Center Foundation in Honor of Dr. Charles Pippitt and Staff, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to Kernersville First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund for Daycare, 401 Oakhurst St., Kernersville, NC 27284. Hayworth-Miller-Cain is assisting the Hucks family.

Linda had a sweet spirit about her. She was my son's preschool choir director some 16 yrs ago. I will miss not seeing her around in Kernersville.
