Margaret Zohorsky Obituary

Margaret Mary Seli Zohorsky

Oct 17, 1932 - Oct 18, 2025

Margaret Mary (Seli) Zohorsky, "Peggy" of Winston-Salem passed away October 18, 2025.

Born October 17, 1932 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of John and Emma Seli. Preceding her in death was her beloved husband of 58 years, Paul Zohorsky. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Genevieve Amon, Anna (Betty) Basl, Msgr. John Seli, Robert Seli, Sister Mary Catherine Seli S.C., Rev. William Seli, and Catherine DiPerna. She is survived by her beloved sister, Eleanor Hines and brother, Frederick Seli.

Peggy met Paul playing badminton on a blind date. They were totally committed to each other - he loved her completely and he was the love of her life. Together they had five children, Anne Zohorsky and husband, Jim Flaherty of West Palm Beach, FL; Paul J. Zohorsky III and wife Claudia of Ellicott City, MD; Peter J. Zohorsky and wife Stephanie of Chesapeake, VA; Julie Pinder and husband Jon of Winston-Salem, NC; and Joan Betts and husband Erin of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Peggy was a woman on the go! She was a prayer warrior for her grandchildren, family and friends. She was an active volunteer for church activities, Eucharistic ministry to the homebound, Samaritan Ministries, Meals on Wheels, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Charlotte. She loved to exercise, whether at the YMCA, walks, water aerobics, or gardening. She had many hobbies including quilting, travel, and playing bridge. Until her health issues required her to slow down, she was so rarely at home that Paul quipped that she was running for mayor.

Peggy's deep faith and generosity of spirit made her a people person. She had multiple moves after she married Paul and with each move she was able to joyfully connect with new people while maintaining previous relationships. Her family and friends were intensely important to her - as she was to them. She made it a point to know everyone – and their family members' – names, jobs, interests, and birthdays.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Arbor Acres who were so dedicated to Peggy, especially during her last days. She truly loved them all.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2025 at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church with Very Reverend Christopher M. Gober, V.F. officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 23 at Salem Funeral Home at 120 S. Main Street in Winston-Salem.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Samaritan Ministries in Winston-Salem (samaritanforsyth.org) or the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Charlotte (https://www.stvincentdepaulchurch.com/faith-direct).
