Michael B. "Mike" Buckland, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, following a brief battle with cancer.

Mike was born September 8, 1936, in Cleveland, Ohio. After earning his B.S. and D.D.S. degrees at The Ohio State University, Dr. Buckland served in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps. Following his residency in Periodontics at the University of Washington School of Dentistry, he joined the faculty of the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry for three years before establishing his practice of periodontics in Winston-Salem in 1970. He was active in the Forsyth County Dental Society and the N.C. Society of Periodontics until his retirement in 2004.

In his early years, Mike was an avid snow skier, and in retirement he was a skilled and talented woodworker.

He is survived by his wife, BJ; his three children, Eric (Laura) Buckland, Heidi (Scott) Mintz, and Marc (Nicole) Buckland; four grandsons, Ryan Mintz, Austin Mintz, Dylan Buckland, and Ethan Buckland; sister, Cathi (Lee) Thomas; niece, Carly; nephew, Adam; great-nephews, Jack, Gage, and Alex; and great-nieces, Emma and Lily.

Visitation with family and friends to celebrate Mike's life will be 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Salem Funeral and Cremation Reynolda location, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27106.
