I just learned of Mike's passing. I worked with him for over 25 years, had lunch with him several times a week, played golf and basketball with him a few times, and shared a lot of time with him. He was one of the kindest, most gentle men I have ever known. I respected him as a coworker, but also as a friend. I am better for having known him, and am truly saddened to hear of his passing. He was a wonderful man.

I join the other cousins and agree with everything they said about Mike! The Combs family lost a dear one, loved by all.
Sending my love.

How fortunate and what a blessing to have Mike Sherrill as a cousin. Even more fortunate was to live across the street from him the first six years of my life in Troutman. What a kind and gentle person! Out of six children on the Sherrill side, he was the only male, and he put up with us with such ease. I will miss him! My sympathies go out to Nancy, Gregg, and Keith - you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Keith,
I was saddened to hear of the death of your father; my condolences to you and your family...John 5:28-29 gave me comfort when my mom passed away. Perhaps you'll find comfort & hope in those scriptures as well.

Nancy, Greg, and Keith, so sorry for your loss. Having grown up right across the street, I have many fond memories of Mike, who, even as my older, smarter, cooler, cousin, was kind to me as a younger kid. So hard to believe he's gone.

Mike and I was class mates at Troutman in 1961, when we graduated. I will pray for his family, glad to know he was a christian.

A statistician who skewed all the usual numbers on human characteristics in the best possible way, Mike was an exemplar of a true Christian man who lived a life of Stoic principle. A son his parents bursted with pride for; a brother who was supportive, steadfast, and loving; a friend who was kind and funny and that none would forget; a devoted husband; and a proud and strong father. It is striking that no one can remember an unkind word or deed, yet all remember some endearing or thoughtful action which Mike combined with a brilliant mind and a humorous outlook on life. If there be angels among us, he surely was one.
