Mildred Clark Obituary

CLARK WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Mildred Lee "Millie" Kinney Clark, 98, of Winston-Salem died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Winston-Salem January 21, 1911 to Sidney Scales Kinney, Sr. and Ora Floyd Hensley Kinney. Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John Robert Clark. She was also preceded in death by her sister Lucille K. Crook Lee, and brother S. S. Kinney, Jr. Mildred was a life long member of First Christian Church where she was very active teaching Sunday school classes for many years. A member and officer of CWF and later a member of the Fri-Lo-Ha class, along with other lifetime members. She graduated from R. J. Reynolds High School class of 1929. Her employment was varied for many years. Her last and longest was as secretary of Latham Elementary School for 27 years. She was beloved by students and teachers alike. After her retirement she continued to do many kindly things for students. For many years she was active in the State Secretaries Association holding various offices and remained active after her retirement and the Duke Energy Retirees organization, as her husband was an employee of Duke Power for 50 years. She was active for over 60 years in the West Salem Civic Club. Mildred is survived by daughters Jane C. Bass (Jon) of Charlotte, Susan C. Drew (Ray) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Connie Hance (Charlie) of Winston-Salem. She was known as "Mimmie" to granddaughters Cathy Schroeder, Kym Hance, Jennifer Mabe, Eleanor Perkinson, and Elizabeth Verdi,. five great-grand-children, four nieces and four nephews. Her granddaughters and great grandchildren loved to come to "Mimmie' s" home often for wonderful family holidays, her birthdays and summer get togethers. The family thanks Kay Eason for her loving care for 8 years which made it possible for Millie to remain in her home of 74 years. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 22, 2009, at 11:00 a.m,. at First Christian Church, with Dr. Mike Simpson and Rev. Bob Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, at Salem Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, the church she loved so very much, or to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be sent to www.salemfh.com.

I met Miss Millie at Oyster Bay Seafood where she would often visit with her beloved friend Kay. I found myself looking forward to them coming in. She was a pleasure to be around and every time she saw me she offered me a hug and told me she loved me. I know that she is with her Lord and Savior where we will all meet again oneday. Mona Shaw
