Molly Weeks Johnson
Aug 29, 1922 - Oct 13, 2025
Molly Weeks Johnson transitioned peacefully on the evening of October 13, 2025 at her Arbor Acres home. Molly was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. on August 29, 1922 to Jim and Beulah Weeks. She was the third daughter and developed a love of sports from her father. At age six, she was riding his polo pony while he held the lead. She went on to become an accomplished rider, competing and showing horses.
Molly was in the first class of Summit School and later a student at Salem Academy. She graduated from Hollins College in 1943 majoring in psychology, the subject she liked best and one that was handy in life.
Molly was active in the Red Cross Canteen making her famous iced tea for the soldiers. After the war, she began dating Hugh Johnson who was working at Hanes Hosiery. Their courtship was at the Hanes Hosiery basketball games. They married in her parents' home on April 12, 1947.
Molly and Hugh had five children, Beth, Amy, Kathy, Jimmy, and Todd. They spent many happy summers boating on High Rock Lake and Lake Norman teaching their children to ski, sail, play cards, and make peach ice cream.
Molly was a faithful and active lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a Deacon and an Elder and served on numerous committees. She and her sisters led the work to stitch the Pentecostal Banner in honor of their mother. Molly modeled Christian life and service for her family.
Molly was a dedicated volunteer, sitting on the boards of Forsyth Country Day School, Child Guidance Clinic, Piedmont Craftsmen, and serving active roles with The Garden Council, Junior League, and Meals on Wheels. She was a strong, independent woman who was a grounding force not only for her family, but her friends and the community.
Molly was always learning new things. After a trip to Le Cordon Bleu with Amy, Molly became quite a cook. She also loved playing bridge and became a Life Master. Molly enjoyed reading fiction and cookbooks. She delighted in solving puzzles of any kind.
Molly was creative, excelling in needlework, floral arranging, sewing and teaching her children and grandchildren to make things. She was constantly sharing her talents with others.
She enjoyed sports and taking her children to Wake Forest basketball games. She watched many sports on TV, read Sports Illustrated and shared her passion for sports with her children and grandchildren.
Molly was predeceased by her beloved, Hugh; and children, Amy Steele and Jimmy Johnson; as well as her sisters, Mary Lou Morris and Suzanne LaRoque. She is survived by three children, Beth Einstein (Jim), Kathy Cooper, Todd Johnson (Page); 13 grandchildren, Lyle, Molly, Shelton, Mac, Jay, Sunny, Libba, Sarah, Beth, Hugh, Brooks, Merritt, Clay; and 23 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Molly's long and full life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 300 N Cherry St, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11 a.m., with a reception immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or any of the schools or non-profits she was involved in. Condolences may be shared online at

Molly often said her children were the story of her life. They kept her going throughout her life after losing Hugh at a young age. We are happy she is back with Hugh and the rest of her loved ones.
