BELEWS CREEK - Mrs. Nellie Rachel "Grannie" Collins Mabe, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at her home. She was born in Patrick County, Va., to Ervin J. and Lelia Bertha Boyles Collins. She was a farmer who enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Redgie Woodrow Mabe; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Mabe and Ronald Woodrow Mabe; her granddaughter, Toni M. Mabe; and a brother, James Ervin Collins. Surviving are three daughters, Marie McHone, Nancy Sue Willis and Doris Lee Slater, all of Walkertown; four sons, Redgie Thomas Mabe of Kernersville, Herbert Ray (Regina) Mabe of Walkertown, Ervin Woodrow (Angie) Mabe of Walnut Cove and Elwood Layton (Hilda) Mabe of Walkertown; two sisters, Mary (Wade) Stafford of Kernersville and Annie Ruth Ashburn of Walnut Cove; a brother, Paul Junior Collins of San Diego, Calif.; a special sister-in-law, Minnie Collins of Walkertown; 17 grandchildren; 13 1/2 great-grandchildren; and her faithful friends, Jim Cummings and Jeff Morison. A 2 p.m. funeral service will be held today, Jan. 17, at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 145 Helsabeck Road, King, NC 27021.

Being one of Grannies many grandchildren. I definitely know that she was a very loving, caring and outgoing lady. I couldn't have asked for a better grannie. Me and my family will miss her very much!

Granny Mabe was always a wonderful grandmother to me and I will really miss her. She never met a stranger and considered everyone a friend. I will miss the times that we used to spend together and will keep her in my heart forever. love ya granny!!!!
