Randy Rogers Obituary

Rogers, Randy Joe

November 12, 1953 - August 19, 2022

On the evening of Aug. 19, 2022, Randy Joe Rogers, 68, went home to be with the Lord, in Winston-Salem while surrounded by his family. Randy was a native of Bladenboro, NC, and a long-time resident of Bethania, NC. Randy was born Nov. 12, 1953, the first son of Kenneth and Joanne Rogers. A graduate of Bladenboro High School ('72), Randy was also a graduate of NC State University, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He worked for the city of Winston-Salem for 32 years and for Surry Community College for 12 years as the director of facilities. Randy patiently invested in the lives of many young men during his 23 years in the Boy Scouts of America. He served as scoutmaster of Troop 942 for 14 years, was a recipient of the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow, and served on the Eagle Scout Review Board. Under his leadership, more than 100 young men earned the award of Eagle Scout. Randy loved to spend time with his family, explore the outdoors, and cheer on the NC State Wolfpack. Whether it was a pinewood derby car or the Lawrence-Joel Coliseum, Randy loved to see his design ideas take shape. He was a purveyor of garden vegetables and Ford Broncos. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 30 years, slightly longer than it took him to complete "the rock wall." Randy was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and his brother Rocky (Glenda). Randy is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Rachel; their children, John (Adrienne) Rogers and Caroline (Gunnery Sergeant Elbert) McAnally; three grandchildren, Logan, Parker, and Emsleigh. He is also survived by his mother, Joanne Rogers; siblings, Pam Jones, Rusty (Camilla) Rogers, and Richie (Paula) Rogers. All of those he loved, he touched deeply. Please join us in celebrating his life. A funeral service will be held Friday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors Thursday, Aug. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Vogler Funeral at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the facilities fund at Calvary Baptist Church.

As a co-worker with the City of Winston-Salem, Randly was a great friend and respected by all who knew him. He always had a pleasant smile and was always looking to help others. He will be missed. My tremendous sympathy is extended to Randy's family.

Randy was a wonderful Scoutmaster, leader, and rock in the Scouting community. His mentoring over the years to so many formed a generation of Eagle Scouts at Calvary Baptist Church (Troop 942), as well as throughout the Old Hickory Council & Wahissa Lodge. Thanks Rachel for sharing Randy with us on so many weekends and letting him be at Raven Knob to teach others. My prayers are for the entire Rogers crew at this time.

My condolences. My sons, Rob and Mike both earned their Eagle´s with Randy. He was such a gift to everyone.
