Raymond Searcy Obituary

SEARCY PILOT MOUNTAIN - Raymond Calvin Searcy, 73, of Pilot Mountain, NC passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011, at home. Ray loved being outdoors fishing, playing golf or working in his garden. When he graduated from High School, Ray played minor league baseball for the Rutherford County Owls before signing with the Chicago Cubs farm team in Paris, Illinois. When an injury ended his baseball career, Ray worked as a textile plant manager for Texfi and Armtex until retiring in 1995. He also served in the National Guard. Born in Lake Lure, NC on November 1, 1938, Ray was the son of the late Rachel (Parker) and Clyo Searcy of Lake Lure. He is survived by his wife Jeannie (Marion) Searcy of Pilot Mountain, son Tim Searcy and wife Janet of Nashville, TN, son Roger Searcy and wife Alicia of Reidsville, NC, daughter Lisa Wawrzyniak and husband John of Lebanon, PA, daughter Rhonda Stone and husband Larry of Carthage, NC, step-son Joel Cook and wife Averi of Pilot Mountain, and step-son Lenny Marion of Shoals. Ray leaves behind fourteen grandchildren: Holly, Meghann and Trey Searcy of Nashville, TN; Brian, Casey and Eric Wawrzyniak of Lebanon, PA; Adam and Dawson Stone of Carthage, NC; Jonathan Searcy of Summerville, SC; Tyler, Patrick, Caroline Marion of Shoals and Madison Cook of Pilot Mountain, NC; and James Stewart of Greensboro, NC. Ray is also survived by two brothers: Larry Searcy of Lake Lure and Troy Searcy of Greensboro; two sisters: Jane Pritchard and Vickie Schappert of Lake Lure; close friend P.M. Shoffner of Pilot Mountain; and former wife Sylvia (Hardin) Searcy of Greensboro, NC. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Fairview United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Cook and the Rev. Tony Dowdy officiating with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Fairview United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3664 Quaker Church Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043 Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain (www.coxneedham.com, www.coxneedham/facebook. com) is respectfully serving the Searcy family.
