MCMILLAN WILKESBORO - Rebecca Eleanor Moxley McMillan of Wilkesboro, a former commissioner and music teacher died Thursday, Sept. 24 in North Wilkesboro. Rebecca Eleanor Moxley McMillan. Rebecca was born April 14, 1934 in Laurel Springs, NC to Thomas Senter & Elizabeth Miller Moxley. She attended Laurel Springs Elementary School and graduated from Sparta High School and graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1955 with a Music Education Degree and furthered her studies at Ohio State University. She taught Kindergarten in Winston-Salem, NC and also in Columbus Ohio. She taught Music for 37 years in Wilkes County and shared her love of music by teaching hundreds children and adults Piano. Throughout her life she played at numerous weddings, funerals, and nursing homes. She was a loyal and active member of Wilkesboro United Methodist Church. She served in many capacities within the church including, Director of both the Children and Chancel Choirs, United Methodist Woman, Sunday School Teacher, Pianist, and Organist. Among other civic activities she was a Wilkesboro Town Commissioner and served on The Board of Old Wilkes, Board Member of Wilkes YMCA, Member and Past President of both the North Wilkesboro Musical Arts Club and the North Carolina Music Teachers Association. She was also honored to receive an Outstanding Young Woman of America Award in 1965, The Rotarian Paul Harris Fellow Award and most recently a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1142 North Wilkesboro. She was a volunteer for Wilkes Literacy teaching adult reading skills. She was also active in the Wilkes County Democrat Women. Rebecca was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Wendell Miller Moxley of Danville Ohio, and Charles Gwyn Moxley of Mountain Rest, South Carolina. Rebecca is survived by her Loving and Devoted Husband of 53 years Joe Clint McMillan of the home, and their children Joseph Lennie McMillan of Emerald Isle, NC, Melanie McMillan Davis and husband Kenneth of Statesville, Joel Thomas McMillan and wife Jennifer of Sparta, and Edwin Moxley McMillan of Raleigh, and her five grandchildren Joshua Brant McMillan, Elizabeth Rebecca Davis, Savannah McMillan Davis, Matthew Caleb McMillan, and Caroline Grace McMillan; her sister Sue Moxley Kocal of North Fort Myers, Florida Rebecca will be remembered for her constant smile, loving and generous spirit, and her determined and unwavering positive attitude. The family wishes to thank Dallie Byers for her 15 years of devoted service as her caregiver, and best friend. The family also would like to thank the Community for their love and support over the years. A memorial service will be held 2:30, Sunday, Sept. 27, at Wilkesboro United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis Poag and the Rev. Chris Lakey officiating. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday night. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Byers, Harry Galifianakis, Arnold Lackey, Gerald Lankford, Robert Rizoti, Jim Swofford, and Bill Thomas.
