Rebecca Wilson Obituary

Rebecca Arlyn Morris Wilson, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Walkertown, NC on Sunday morning, Sept 21st, as she was surrounded by her loving family members.

Arlyn was born on Nov 16, 1934, in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the oldest of two children born to Kathleen Middleton Morris and Moses Kenneth Morris.

Arlyn began a lifelong career as an Educator at the age of 32 years old. While raising a family she began obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree from High Point University, graduating in 1967. 10 years later in 1977 she earned her master's degree from Appalachian State University. Hungry for more she began her PhD work, all while taking care of a household.

With the credentials and the love of Jesus, she continued to change the world by positive influence on all her students and each person that were blessed to cross paths with her. The majority of her career was spent at Walkertown Elementary School under the guidance of C.O. McLamb. After retiring from Jefferson Elementary School in 1995 Arlyn was not slowing down. She continued to serve others in many ways. Arlyn helped and mentored many kids to obtain their G.E.D. Working with various suicide prevention hotlines, where she was coordinator of meals on wheel and faithful servant of the Stephen's Ministry. Arlyn was not totally consumed by her work, however. Travel was a big part of her life following the passing of her husband, Ted, in 1995. The movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" could best describe Arlyn's later years. Along with all the volunteer work, she found time to travel the globe with close friends. Carol Sue Grubbs being her dearest and most loyal travel buddy. Boy did they have some stories to tell. Arlyn's love of travel and constantly finding new destinations kept her in touch with God and his creations.

Arlyn's words that will forever go on: "To teach is to change a life forever."

She is preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Gray Wilson, two grandchildren, Tye Jones and Kevin Daly, and a son-in-law, Larry Jones.

Arlyn is survived by two children, Robin Wilson Jones, of Winston-Salem, and Keith Wilson (Debbie), of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister, Janette Morris Mock (Cecil); grandchildren, Summer Wilson Farrand (Jason) and Chris Daly; great-grandchildren, Canyon Farrand, Tryton Farrand, and Alexis Daly; as well as special nephew, Craig Mock and niece, Joan Mock Snow.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 27th from 12 to 1 p.m. at Love's United Methodist Church, 3020 Main Street, Walkertown, NC with Funeral Service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sandra Ireson and Pastor "Chip" Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Love's United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Trellis Supportive Care. Any donations can be made directly to them or Loves UMC in Walkertown.

Arlyn's life was rooted in faith and family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

What a privilege to have had Ms.Wilson as my kindergarten teacher way back when, I graduated in 1987. She was such a kind and loving but yet so firm teacher. I'd go back to visit teachers and such as I grew. Then she came back into my life as she was trying to help my daddy pass his ged classes. I read her motto,I guess she inspired mine. Learn something new everyday,, and you'll never stop growing as a person.

She was my first grade teacher at the old Walkertown Elementary and we went to church together at Love´s.
I was probably in my forties before I felt comfortable calling her Arlyn. She was Mrs. Wilson to me from school. No matter where we crossed paths there was usually a conversation.
I was around 50 years old as service was about to start and I was giving her a hug in the front of church and she whispered in my ear... zip your pants... felt like I was in first grade all over again, said she´s had to watch after me all these years. She was a true gem and contributed greatly to our community. Prayers for all who will miss her.
