Robert J. Edwards, Sr., age 86, peacefully answered the Lord's call into eternal rest on July 10, 2022, at his home surrounded by his devoted and loving wife and children. He was born on January 24, 1936, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Sam ML Edwards and Kathalen Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a retiree of RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co. of 36 years, retired chef at the Staley's Charcoal Steakhouse for 40 plus years, lifelong dedicated deacon of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, a 32° Mason and Master at the Mt. Moriah #168 Lodge in Winston-Salem, NC. He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Kathalen Edwards, two sons Robert Jr., and Samuel E. Edwards, three brothers Jesse, Leon, and John Henry Edwards. His legacy of love and devotion to his family will be forever cherished by love of his life, Helen D. Edwards, his beautiful, devoted wife of 70 years. God blessed their union with 6 children: Robert James Edwards, Jr., Kathleen Edwards-Dean (Nelson), Lithia Springs, GA, Nadine Edwards of the city, Tyrone Victor Edwards, Sr. (Teresa), Lower Gwynedd, PA, Samuel Earl Edwards of the city, Amanda L. Edwards of the city; 5 grandchildren: Dr. Linsey N. Edwards-Drummond (Lance), Brooklyn, NY, Nadia B. Dean, Lithia Springs, GA, Tyrone V. Edwards, Jr. (Erin), Alexandria, VA, Timothy John Dean, Lithia Springs, GA, Kevin M. Edwards, Lower Gwynedd, PA; 2 great-grandchildren: Riley Elizabeth Edwards, London Simone Drummond. His legacy keepers also include 2 brothers-in-law, David John Davis Jr., Greensboro, NC, David Hope, Winston-Salem. NC; three sisters-in-law, Jeanette D. Gilmore, of the city, Shirley Shelton of Cornelius, NC and Delores Coble of Charlotte, NC, two sisters Carolyn D. Long of Crofton, MD, Ellen L. Morgan (Rex) of the city and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Hart officiating, Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. (Follow all protocols, always wearing mask.) The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Novant ICU, Palliative Staff and Medi Home Health and Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Edwards during his stay.
