Simmons, Rose Dema Carter

Rose Dema Carter Simmons, age 88, passed away Friday night on November 11, 2022 at Trinity Elms Assisted Living in Clemmons. She was born in Wilkes County to Bryan and Tessie Carter. She married Bobby Lee Simmons on June 25, 1955.

She loved sewing and besides making clothes for her daughter, she did sewing for other people. Her biggest accomplishment was making the wedding dress for her sister-in-law, Debbie Simmons Wilmoth. She worked at Belk in Hanes Mall for 25 years, retiring in 2000. Working in Housewares was the dream job for her. After retirement, she enjoyed cooking and baking for her church family at Pfafftown Baptist. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family at the New River or at the beach.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years; sisters, Alma Draughn, Lois Hutchison, Doris Hutchison, and Nancy Knighton; brothers, Ward, Joseph, and Conrad Carter; and brothers-in-law Russell Draughn, Burr Hutchison, Wilmer Hutchison, and Clinton Smith. She is survived by her daughter, Janie Prevette (Mike) of Tobaccoville; sisters, Agnes Smith and Betty Luffman (Javan); brother, Franklin Carter (Kit); brother-in-law, Ray Knighton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Trinity Elms Assisted Living for the care they provided over the last four months and to Trellis Supportive Care.

There will be a graveside service at Forsyth Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior at Salem Funeral Home on Reynolda Rd.
