Russell Mackie Obituary

MACKIE CLEMMONS - Mr. Russell Eaton Mackie, 80, of Clemmons passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, in Salisbury. Mr. Mackie was born to Henry Edward and Minnie Shugart Mackie on Dec. 9, 1927, in Yadkin County. He graduated from Yadkinville High School in 1942 and served in the US Army in Korea from April 11, 1946, to Oct. 1, 1947. Mr. Mackie retired from Lucent, formerly AT&T, after 36 years of service and worked for Taylor Oil for 17 years. He was a member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Syvileen Blankenship Mackie of the home; three sons, Allan and his wife, Elizabeth, of Lincolnton; Keith and his wife, Pam, of Mocksville; and Chris and his wife, Julie, of Lewisville; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, April 15, at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel, with Judith Dancy, pastor, and the Rev. Tom Southern officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Klumac Square, Suite 3, Salisbury, NC 28144, or Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, 3151 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

To the Mackie Family: Russell was always a surrogate Father to all of us. Your family had that special gravitational pull to everyone in the neighborhood. I hope those ties bind you together during this time of sorrow. My sympathy, to all of you. Please call if there is anything you need. My favorite memory is Russell calling people "the big cheese"!
