Ms. Sarah Lou Mitchell Rogers, 83, of the Collinstown Community in Stokes County, passed away early Thursday morning, January 26, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital.
Sarah Lou was born September 27, 1939, in Collinstown to the late Will and Bertha Lou Hutchens Mitchell.
Working alongside her husband, Junior, they raised tobacco and cattle on the family farm. She was also a long-time caregiver to various members of the community.
Sarah Lou was a 20-year volunteer at Stokes County Nursing Home in Danbury, where she was known as the "Bingo Lady."
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Mitzi and Brad Boyette, and Kristi and Ken Tolliver; one son, Andy W. Rogers; three granddaughters: Hannah Boyette Strickland and husband, Jason, Olivia Boyette, and Maddie Tolliver; one great-grandson, Arthur Strickland; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Alyssa Strickland; one brother and two sisters-in-law: Wayne and Anita Mitchell, and Helen Mitchell; and two special nieces: Kathy Martin Holt and Delana Mitchell Vickers.
In addition to her parents, Sarah Lou was preceded in death by her husband of over 58 years, Junior Rogers; one sister, Frances Frans; two brothers: Bill and Tom Mitchell; and a special cousin, Gayle Vaughn.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Collinstown Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Will Eads and Rev. Rickey Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the Collinstown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Collinstown Presbyterian Church, c/o Ann Jones, 1889 Puckett Road, Westfield, North Carolina 27053.
