Sharon Miller Obituary

Sharon Arrington Miller

October 10, 1944 - January 7, 2025

Sharon Arrington Miller, age 80 years, of Bermuda Run, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born on October 10, 1944, in Englewood, New Jersey, to the late Victor L. and Nann I. Arrington. Sharon graduated from Rahway High School in 1962, and Juniata College in 1966 with a BA. Sharon worked as an educator at Gaullaudet School for the Deaf in Washington, DC, before focusing on creating a welcoming, loving family home.

Sharon was an avid quilter, needleworker, and reader. She often would find herself engrossed in a book until the early hours of the morning. She excelled at avoiding all fruits and vegetables, proving that "an apple a day" may be overrated. Sharon poured herself into others, as a Sunday School teacher, Bible Study Fellowship group leader, and friend to many. She was a fierce advocate for individuals with disabilities, including her beloved daughter, Amy, who was born paralyzed below the waist. The last words Sharon wrote were that she was "thankful and grateful for God's bountiful blessings" which epitomizes her positive outlook and strong faith.

Preceding her in death are her parents. Surviving is her loving husband of 58 years, David P. Miller, MD, of Bermuda Run, NC; two children, David Miller, Jr., MD and wife Emily Miller of Clemmons, NC, and Amy Dulaney and husband Robert Dulaney of Kingsport, TN; granddaughter, Lauren Miller and wife Ellie Miller of Seattle, WA, and grandson, Samuel Miller of Waltham, MA; brother, Victor Arrington, III and wife Peggy Arrington of Milford, CT, and sister, Faith Hart and husband Budd Hart of Kingsport, TN; former sister-in-law Judy Miller of Harrisburg, PA; and nine nephews and nieces, Devin Arrington, Nathan Arrington, Faye Schoenherr, Ariel Hart, Buddy Hart, Katie Hart, Silas Hart, Jon Miller, and Timothy Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army (https://give.salvationarmyusa.org/) or the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee (https://netfoodbank.org/).

Sharon was my college roommate freshman and sophomore years at Juniata College. She changed my life for the better with her strong faith. We've kept in touch through the years; Dave was in med school at Pitt when my husband (who graduated in Dave's class at JC) was in grad school at the same time. I remember when Amy and Davey were born, the move to NJ, then to Kingsport. She was so supportive when my husband developed leukemia. In her last letter to me, which didn't have a date on it, she said Hospice was coming in for her and she was grateful for that. She didn't know if she would survive to Christmas. I wrote to her after that but didn't her anything back. Now I know why.
The last I knew, Amy had an apartment in Wake Forest as she was preparing for her cancer treatments. I hope the family will send updates.
Sharon had such a strong faith, it got her through those really tough times. I loved her dearly. RIP, old friend.

I don't think I'd ever met such a sweet person in my life..I helped Sharron do a few things when she was getting ready to move. In that short period of time she really made an impact on me and holds a special place in my heart. My heart is broken due to her passing. My heartfelt condolences to her family..Sharron was a very precious lady
