Steve Hodges Obituary

Mr. Steve James Hodges, 91, of Winston-Salem died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Jan. 10, 1914, in Eyritania, Greece, to Demetrios and Efrosini Canavos Hantzopoulos. Mr. Hodges was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Velouhi organization. He owned and operated several restaurants, the last being Steve's Italia Restaurant. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, George. Surviving are his wife, Lelia Hodges; a son, James Hodges, and wife Eleni of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Steven, George, Brian and Kelly; three sisters, Evantia Elefantis of Australia, Eleni Moutselou and Ourania Diamanti, both of Greece; and a sister-in-law, Efpraxia Hantzopoulos of Greece. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Demetri Kangelaris, the Rev. Dennis Canavos and the Rev. George Kiricoples officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, May 19, at the church, with a Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
