October 5, 1943 - November 17, 2022
Sue A. Ray of Winston-Salem passed away early on Thursday morming, November 17 at Novant Hospital. Sue was born in West Virginia to the late Robert and Mary Criss. She passionately loved and was loved by her family and proudly held her place as the middle child. Her favorite things included books, chocolate, the color purple, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Sue's family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL when she was in middle school and where her life-long love of the ocean began. Sue spent her working career in a variety of office positions including more than 10 years working with her husband Bill. Bill's work required them to make multiple moves during their marriage, including to Florida, Georgia, California, Northern California, and North Carolina. Before her marriage, Sue made two wilderness horseback camping trips to Colorado where she also enjoyed sightseeing excursions to several national parks out West. Sue also spent a year in Richmond, VA helping wounded Vietnam veterans. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, William Ray, sister Judy Fountain (Nick) (FL), brother Bill Criss (Judy) (TN), cousin Dick Overmyer (Laura) (FL), and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Sue's wishes were that she be cremated and her ashes spread in the Gulfstream. A celebration of her life will be held in Florida in December. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local library, as Sue loved reading.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I worked with Sue for years at DSS in Forsyth County. Enjoyed her so much! She was a fine lady. Sorry for your loss.
