Margaret Susanne (Susie) Hutcherson Chambers (also affectionately known as "Lulie"), 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 13th, 2021, in Winston-Salem, N.C. Susie passed unexpectedly, after contentedly working in her garden, her favorite place to be, all afternoon.

Everyone knew Susie as a kind and thoughtful woman who was always looking to help others. She shared her love for life with her friends and family through a generous heart, full of unconditional love. Anyone who knew her was gifted with her ever-present smile and amusing sense of humor.

She is survived by her daughter, Collin Chambers, her sister, Marty Hutcherson Greer and husband Billy, her brother Jay Hutcherson and wife Barbara, her niece, Louisa Rauschenberg-Amoroso and husband Joe, her nephew Britt Peace, her nephew Eric Rauschenberg and wife Amy Zimmerman, and her grand-nephews Jack and Parker Rauschenberg.

Susie was born on September 20th, 1948, to Lucille and J.E. Hutcherson. She grew up on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem, N.C., graduated from Reynolds High School in 1966, and Gardner-Webb University in 1968. After college, she worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company until she met her first husband, James (J.J.) Chambers. They were married in 1970 and lived in Atlanta, Georgia.

Susie was a part of many groups and clubs, regularly contributed to nonprofit organizations, and was a well-loved girl scout leader. She discovered her love of fine food as a sous-chef at Bernard's, an intimate French bistro.

Later, she left the restaurant business to follow her dreams of opening a catering company called A Black-Tie Affair. Most days, she could be found preparing a full gourmet lunch buffet for two major television stations in midtown Atlanta. They loved her so much they insisted that she ride on the float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on multiple occasions.

Having an inherent green thumb, Susie became a passionate Master Gardner and brought beauty everywhere she went. Susie was also well-known for her artfully created urns of flowers and plants. Her favorite contribution to those she cared for was sharing her passion for lush greenery and colorful flora.

After working with Combined Insurance Company for several years, she was recognized as a top saleswoman at Dillard's department store, where she worked until her retirement.

Susie appreciated the small things in life, dearly loved animals, and all-things nature. She will be greatly missed by those who were fortunate to know her.

A celebration of life for Susie will take place at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family respectfully requests that you plant a tree or flowers, somewhere special to you, in her honor.
