Thomas (Tom) H. Edwards

Thomas (Tom) H. Edwards passed away on July 11, 2025, surrounded by his children. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Bert and Bill, their wives Margaret and Mildred; and his wife of 59 years, Peggy. He and Peggy had three children. Cindy Taylor (Mat) of Frederick, Md., Debbie Johnson (Jeff) of Raleigh, N.C., and David Edwards (Judi) of Chester, S.C. They also have seven grandchildren. Amanda, Paul Henry, Emily, Rebecca, David, Jeremiah and Brandon.

Tom was born in Mars Hill, N.C., to Henry Clay and Ruth Edwards. He grew up working on his father's tobacco farm, singing with his brothers and father in a gospel quartet, and developing a love for music, as well as for chemistry and science. He accepted Jesus at a young age, and quietly lived his life loving and serving his family and others. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill for a short time, but graduated from Western Carolina. He served in the Army in Korea for two years, then came back to Mars Hill to work as a lab assistant at Mars Hill College. Over the years, he was a teacher, a chemist at RJ Reynolds, a real estate agent with Century 21, owner and only employee of T.H.E. Plumbing Co., and retired as a lab technician from Bowman Gray School of Medicine. His love of music continued as well, as he sang in church choirs, a Barbershop Quartet and chorus, and many years in the Piedmont Chamber Singers. He and Peggy enjoyed their retirement by visiting their children and grandchildren, vacationing with family and friends, and enjoying their lives together until Peggy's death in 2020. A special thanks goes out to the employees of Pruitt Place for their loving care of Tom. He will be remembered as Daddy, Papa, and Uncle Tommy by his family, the fellow with the wonderful bass voice by many, and a man who loved people by all who met him.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston Salem, N.C., at 4 pm. There will be a reception following the service.
