Thomas Rumple Obituary

ELKIN - Mr. Thomas Daniel Rumple, 82, of Wilkes Street, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Rumple was born March 11, 1920, in Wilkes County to William Dewey and Hattie Armstrong Rumple. Mr. Rumple was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkin and was owner of Rumple Furniture. Tom was also a member of NASCAR and was sponsor of the late J.D. McDuffie car No. 70. In addition to his parents; two brothers, George Rumple and Forrest Rumple; and a sister, Ruby Mathis, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Pamula Orpurt Rumple of the home; two sons, Larry Thomas Rumple of Winston-Salem and Donald William Rumple of Elkin; two brothers, Flake Rumple of Elkin and W.D. Rumple of Ronda; three sisters, Mildred Redding of Winston-Salem and Carrie Jane Caudle and Doris Nell Lacky, both of Statesville; and a granddaughter, Jessica Rumple. The funeral service for Mr. Rumple will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Elkin by Dr. Bill Johnson and the Rev. Chad Roberts. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery. Mr. Rumple will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
