Waldo Hauser Obituary

HAUSER WINSTON-SALEM - On Friday, July 23, 2010 Reverend Waldo S. Hauser, Sr., 86 departed this life and went "Home on the Morning Train" from the Hospice & Palliative Care Center. He was born in Tobaccoville, NC to the late Wiley and Lummie Spease Hauser. He attended the schools in Forsyth County. He was a Chauffeur for Mr. Harding Reynolds and family for over 20 years. He also worked for Sears Roebuck and Company for 20 years. He owned and operated Hauser's Drive In Restaurant for five years. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his early years he served as a Deacon at Union Chapel Baptist Church and an Associate Pastor at Dreamland Parkland Park Baptist Church. He sang with the former Gospel Quintet Group "Five Sons of Calvary." He then founded the soul stirring gospel singing group called "The Disciples of Faith." For many years he traveled and sang the gospel with both groups while bringing praise and worship to every congregation he assembled with. In 1975, he received his call into the ministry and began preaching the gospel. He began pastoring at Forbush Baptist Church in Yadkin County. There he served his flock faithfully for 5 years. He also served as the Assistant Moderator in Rowan County. In 1981, he founded Freedom Baptist Church of Winston-Salem for 21 years until he retired and served as the Pastor Emeritus. Again he served his flock faithfully in many capacities that would include: driving the church van, carpentry, painting, cleaning the church, mentoring, feeding the hungry, providing shelter for those in need of a place to stay and singing to the glory of God with his guitar and quartet style songs. Reverend Hauser knew no strangers. He was always friendly and would strike up a conversation with anyone upon first meeting them. He communicated greatly through humor and brought lots of laughter and joy to many that he met. He maintained his sense of humor until days before his home going. He would help anyone that needed him and often helped those who did not ask but yet he saw the need. Though we know that he went home to Glory on the Morning Train, Reverend Hauser will truly be missed by many. But to God be the Glory for the years he shared his angel with us. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Callie Mae Payne, Moline Hauser, Margaret Hauser, Rumell Coles, Wiley Hauser, Walter D. Hauser, William Hauser, Worth Hauser, Willard Hauser, Wesley Hauser and Wilbert Hauser. His memories will be cherished by his eternally devoted wife, Mable Sloan Hauser of 65 years; loving and precious memories will always remain in the hearts of his children, Charlena (Hunter) Hill, Pauline Harris, Shirley (James) Salter, Waldo Jr. (Arnetta) Hauser, Charles Hauser, Sr., Argentina Weaver, Haywood Wright and Linda Wright all of Winston-Salem; 26 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mattie Glenn and Alta Carter of Winston-Salem, NC; a devoted friend of the family, Ms. Terri Mayfield; along with a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and close friends. A homegoing celebration will be held at 12 noon Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Union Chapel Baptist Church, 300 West 25th Street, Winston-Salem, NC. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be conducted from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Freedom Baptist Church 1222 E. 14th Street Winston-Salem, NC. The family can be contacted at 3635 Appomattox Drive, W-S, NC 27106. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Freedom Baptist Church Building Fund in Memory of Reverend Waldo S. Hauser, Sr. The family would like to acknowledge and especially thank Ms. Louise Reynolds Ingram, Dr. Betsy English of Winston-Salem Health Care, The Brian Rehabilitation Center and the Hospice & Palliative Care Center. The Moore Family is so sorry for your loss. Mr. Walt was like a Father figure to us. We lived across the street from the family in Castle Heights for over 30 years. And it was like family. For some moments in life there are no words. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Although it's difficult today,to see beyond the sorrow. May looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. We LOVE YOU!!!
