W.H. Turlington Obituary

TURLINGTON LEXINGTON - Mr. W. H. "Bill" Turlington, 95, of Fairview Drive, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Alston Brook after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. A private inurnment will be held at the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the Church Fellowship Hall. Mr. Turlington was born October 2, 1915 in Sampson County to H. Frank and Lula Owens Turlington. He was a 1939 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his Master's Degree in 1941. Mr. Turlington was a C.P.A. and the founder of Turlington and Company, LLP. He was a charter member of Uptown Lexington, Inc, and recognized as a "NC Main Street Champion" by the organization. He was a former member of the NC Association of CPAs and the AICPA. He served on the Local Government Commission under Governor Terry Sanford's Administration, was a former Chairman of the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce; and former member of the Lexington Kiwanis Club. He was a former board member of the Davidson County Community College Foundation, where he later established the Mary and Bill Turlington Excellence Award for Business Faculty at the College. His wife, Mary Cave Turlington, preceded him in death, as well as his brothers, Woodrow Turlington, Hugh Turlington, and Ray Turlington; and his sisters, Grace Berube, Betty Tew, and Pat Gilliland. He is survived by his son, Mike Turlington and wife, Paula, of Lexington; his daughters, Becky Turlington and husband Steve Endres of Mooresville; Joan Turlington and husband Dennis Callan of Charlotte; and Jean Turlington Dore and husband, Jim, of Jamestown; his sister, Louise Turlington Koonce of Laurinburg; his grandchildren, Brian Turlington and wife, Jennifer, Greg Turlington and wife, Laura, Meg Turlington Holshouser and husband, Michael, and Sean Endres; and his great granddaughters, Grace Turlington and Emma Turlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the W.H. Turlington Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o DCCC Foundation, PO Box 1287, Lexington NC 27293. The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff of Alston Brook and to Terri Jones for her many years of dedicated and caring attention.
