ELKIN - Mr. William Franklin "Sam" Bell, 82, of North Wall Street, Elkin, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Bell was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Yadkin County to Charles Robert and Emma Burgess Bell. Mr. Bell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the 2nd Armored Division. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Walls Bell; four brothers, Shade Bell, Robert Bell, Noel Bell and Hal Red Bell; and a sister, Effie Bell Overstreet. Survivors include a brother-in-law, Sonny Walls of Elkin; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Bell and Mary Lee Talley, both of Yadkinville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today, May 13, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, conducted by Hank Campbell. The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 14, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Bell family.
