William Hollifield Obituary

William (Bill) Francis Hollifield Jr., 77, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. Born on November 29, 1947, in Winston-Salem to Betty Hollifield and the late Bill Hollifield Sr.

Bill served his country in the United States Navy before earning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from NC State University. He then began a long career with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco, where he worked as a systems development manager of manufacturing automation systems until his retirement.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, and their children: Will, Caree, and Elliott. He also leaves behind his son-in-law Jerry, daughters-in-law Kim and Margaret, his grandson Wyatt, and his granddaughter Victoria.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, there will be no funeral service, and the family kindly asks that charitable donations be considered in lieu of flowers.

Above all, Bill was devoted to his family, loved deeply, and lived life on his own terms. We will truly miss him.

For me Bill isn't someone just from my past! Bill was a part of my foundation as a young child to a young man! Will Hollifield, his son is my best friend and I love this family dearly! Bill was a very Stern man with strong beliefs! A Dad figure that can be appreciated by someone who had no father. We are molded by many! When I think back of the memories I am reminded of many wonderful times. If I to count how many meals I had from the countless grills he owned,I dont think I could, but I learned throwing frisbee with a beer in hand and to not spill a drop, was just Awesome!!You should try it it takes talent! This may seem a bit trivial to some but if you know Bill Hollifield there's good food, good Music and good conversations to be had! He was an extremely knowledgeable man of many things with a since of humor that few could understand,Most of the time he was yelling at me and will over something I'm sure we needed to be yelled at for! Funny thing is I'm grateful for it! These memories of him stay here with us! I said my goodbyes to Bill the day before he left this place and I'm glad I did it really puts into perspective what little time we have! Thank you for being you Bill! Thank you for being a part of our lives. Thank you for being a Father, husband, friend. May you be at peace and know all is well with your soul! I have a heavy heart for those left behind, Ruth,Will,Caree,Elliott! Love always!

Ruth and children, I'm very sorry for your loss. Bill was one of a kind. I admired his intelligence and loved his cheese and sausage dip. We lost our connection when Mo died, but I always kept up with Bill through Hunter. Rest in peace, friend.

Please accept my condolences to the family. Bill and I worked at RJR early in my career. He was always helpful and inspiring to me as a young engineer trying to grow and understand the challenges ahead. Bill was a brilliant engineer. May God Bless.

You are a challenging person to love but you are probably saying the same about me. I can wish that we had a better connection together but the best thing to do is to reflect on past experiences and choose to be a better reflection of you. LIVE AND LET GO. I love you Dad.
