WRIGHT ELKIN - Mrs. Willie Elizabeth "Billie" Wright, 99, of North Bridge Street, Elkin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at her residence. Mrs. Wright was born March 5, 1908, in Surry County to Dave and Carrie Brendle Woodruff. Mrs. Wright was a homemaker and a member of Elkin First Baptist Church and was a former member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville where she taught R.A.s and G.A.s. She was a choir member and a member of WMU and was a substitute teacher at W. Yadkin School. Billie volunteered at Elkin Thrift Shop and was a member of the Home Demonstration Club. She was very independent and after the death of her husband, she continued to live at home were she was an avid gardener and loved growing flowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Wright; a son, Joseph W. Wright; two brothers, Clyde Woodruff and Henry Woodruff; and five sisters, Nell Woodruff Collins, Annie Woodruff Harmon, Virginia Woodruff Transou, Lucy Woodruff Fletcher and Mary Woodruff Newman. Survivors include a son, James R. Wright, and wife Mary of Hamptonville; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Shaw Wright of Denton; four grandchildren, Sabrina Wright Gregory and husband Steve "Jack" of Pfafftown; Shawn Wright Harris and husband Ronnie and Nicole Wright Melton and husband Dwayne, all of Hamptonville; and Christopher Wright and wife Angie of Lexington; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Gregory and wife Erin, Sarah Dulin, Luke Harris, Dylan Wright and Drew Wright; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan Harris, Jessica Melton and Austin Melton; two very special friends, Faye Martin and Fairy Zack; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Elkin First Baptist Church, with Dr. Bill Johnson, the Rev. Rebecca Maynard and Rev. Joe Dell Rust officiating. Burial will follow at Elkin Valley Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening, at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Missions through Elkin First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 618, Elkin, NC 28621, or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice for their special care. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Wright family.
