Catherine Braunschweig Obituary

Catherine Thimm Braunschweig

January 8, 1957 - July 8, 2025

Catherine Thimm Braunschweig, 68, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2025.

She was born to Harold and Mary Thimm on January 8, 1957, and spent her childhood at the family farm in Rubicon, Wis., with her seven siblings and two aunts who lived with the family.

Cathy was a faithful servant of Jesus, a loving mother, a dedicated and active grandma, and a devoted wife of 45 years to her husband, Orlen. Cathy met Orlen at Marty Zifko's Ball Room in Hartford the day she graduated from high school. Aside from initially believing his name was Lloyd, there was an instant connection between the two of them. They married in 1979 and lived in Reeseville for 14 years before moving to their Randolph farm where they have now resided for 31 years. They have five children, Jessica, Rochelle, Melissa, Shanna, and Jason, and 13 grandchildren.

In addition to being a committed and loving mother, grandma, wife, and friend, Cathy started her own court reporting business 47 years ago. She loved her profession and those she worked with and became known for her shorthand style of writing.

Cathy will be most remembered as a great friend to all and as one who made time for everyone. She treasured people over things and always told her children and grandchildren "you can't take it with you to Heaven." Her legacy of "food and fellowship" will forever live on. This lifelong motto was lived out with a generous and joyful heart.

Cathy lived to serve and possessed a warmth that drew others in. Everyone felt comfortable and genuinely welcomed in her presence and in her home. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, optimism, and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Her passing has left a giant void in the hearts of many, but Cathy's life was a blessing to all. May we carry forth her legacy and let our lights shine bright for Christ and His Heavenly Kingdom.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Orlen Braunschweig; daughter, Jessica (Justin) Oosterhouse, daughter, Rochelle (Aaron) Syvertsen, daughter, Melissa (Joe) Venhuizen, daughter, Shanna (Mitchell) Katze; son, Jason Braunschweig; 13 grandchildren; six siblings, Edward (Andrea) Thimm of Innsbruck, Austria; William (Kristine) Thimm of Rubicon; Ann (Tom) Santy of Fond du Lac; Monica (Larry) Kreilkamp of Rubicon; Ronald (Barbara) Thimm of Hartford; and Lucinda Thimm-Jurado (Jay Jurado) of Madison; 21 nieces and nephews, 43 great nieces and nephews; Aunt Laverne Geiger and Uncle Albert Peters; as well as many extended family and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Thimm; her sister, Linda Davis; one nephew; one great-nephew; and her 2 aunts/sisters, Jean Peters and Joan Knetzger.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 18 at East Friesland New Covenant Church (N8879 E Friesland Road, Randolph, WI 53956) with visitation hours from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Dinner and fun desserts to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Randolph Christian School at randolphchristian.org/giving or mailed to: 457 N. 2nd Street in Randolph WI, 53956.
