WISCONSIN DELLS - Michael Thomas Horkan, age 74 of Wisconsin Dells, WI, passed away peacefully Friday, November 3, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side.
The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells with Father John Blewett celebrating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m.
Mike was born January 5, 1949, in Reedsburg, WI, the son of Thomas and Gertrude (Howley) Horkan. He graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School and continued his education with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
After eleven months of dating, he married the love of his life, Marshia Meister, on September 14, 1974.
Mike started his professional career at Midstates & Associates, before serving as the City Engineer for Portage, WI. In 1989, Micheal started as the City Engineer for the City of Wisconsin Dells; a position that he loved for over 24 years and continued in the private sector through his engineering company.
Post retirement, Mike loved spending time watching his grandchildren's sporting events, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, delivering Meals on Wheels, and Friday Fish-fry date nights with Dean and Vicki Edgington.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marshia; son, Peter; daughter, Kelli (Jeremy) Clussman; grandchildren: Emma and Thomas Clussman; sister, Mary Welch; uncle, Bob Howley; brother-in-law, Chip (Kristi) Meister; sisters-in-law: Paula Van Wie, Leah (Rod) Luckin, Tiernee (Jim) Paquin, Rickie (Bill) Ahlich, Shelly (Jim) Pugh, Kelli (Pat) Fish; his bonus sister-in-law, Elizabeth Wolfram; and numerous niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marty; brother-in-law, Bob Welch; in-laws, Dick and Shirley Meister; sister-in-law, Ardie Meister; brothers-in-law: Bill Van Wie, Richard Lucke, and Cliff Wolfram.
The family would like to thank the amazing hospice care team led by his nurse, Crystal.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Our Lady of the Dells Knights of Columbus Council 4392 are appreciated.
