Nancy L. Spain
November 2, 1946 - September 25, 2024
MADISON - Nancy L. Spain, age 77, of Madison, Wis., passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the Fort Memorial Hospital. She was born November 2, 1946 in Columbia Co., Wis., to Harold and Dorothy (Dahlke) Spain.
Nancy graduated from Montello High School then went on to MATC and the Wisconsin School of Music. She studied piano and the organ. She also was involved in private voice lessons.
Nancy married Michael Solterman in Buffalo Township October 23, 1965, then later divorced. She worked in various departments throughout the UW System and then retired as a System Administrative Program Assistant 4; UW Union Steward.
Nancy belonged to and sang in the Madison Civic Chorus. She also was a part of the United Way (Liaison) and a member of REACT, INT. She belonged to a Cat Rescue and would also foster cats. Nancy resided in Madison for more than 58 years. She enjoyed crocheting, creative circle, genealogy, and had a special place in her heart for small dogs and cats.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Annette (Mark) Nickles; grandchildren, Josiah (Amber) Nickles, Rebecca (James) Nickles Mick, Jacob Nickles, and Rachel Nickles; great-grandchildren, Madison and Weston Crouse, Elijah and Isaiah Nickles, Vinny King, and Foster Nickles Mick; siblings, Linda (George) Hallam, Earl (Beverly) Spain, Judy Aulik, Ruth (Charles) Malkowski, James (Kathleen) Spain, and Joseph Spain; four aunts; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Grasse Funeral Home in Pardeeville. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at the Buffalo U.P Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dane County Humane Society.
