Thomas Bychinski
December 28, 1945 - December 15, 2025
Thomas Walter "Tommy Lee" Bychinski, age 79, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025.
Thomas was born on December 28, 1945, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Frank and Charlotte (Stubinski) Bychinski. He graduated from Brown University Radio School in Minneapolis. Minn., and began his broadcasting career as an on-air personality in Medford, Wis., where he met the love of his life, Sharon Joan Meyer. They were married on July 1, 1967, and shared a beautiful life together until Sharon's passing in 2024. Together, they raised two children, Tina and Todd, and were later blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In 1973, Tom and Sharon moved to Reedsburg, where Tom accepted a position at WRDB Radio Station. He went on to serve as station manager and later as vice president of Goetz Broadcasting Company, a role he held until his retirement in 2010. Reedsburg quickly became their lifelong home. Tommy devoted his life to his family, faith, and community, leaving a lasting impact on Reedsburg and the surrounding areas through his leadership, volunteerism, and genuine care for others.
Tommy was deeply involved in the community he loved so much. He volunteered with the Mobile Food Pantry and for many years with the Reedsburg United Fund Radio Auction. He served as President of the Sacred Heart Parish Council, and as a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Tommy was a 37-year member of the Reedsburg Area Fire Department, served on the Sauk County Board, and held leadership roles including President of the Reedsburg Area Medical Center Foundation, and President of the Reedsburg Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the School District of Reedsburg Strategic Planning Group, the Reedsburg Chamber of Commerce Board, and served as Chairman of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. In 2009, he was honored with induction into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame for his contributions to broadcasting.
Tommy enjoyed many hobbies, especially his love of polka music. This passion led to his very popular polka show, which aired throughout the area on Sunday afternoons on WNFM until his retirement. He and Sharon also enjoyed motor-homing with friends and family throughout Wisconsin. Above all, Tommy's heart was in serving the Reedsburg community. Rarely a day went by without seeing him around town-working, volunteering, or simply connecting with others. He especially loved emceeing the annual Butterfest Parade, sharing coffee with his coffee clutch at Viking Village or Culver's, and striking up conversations with friends and neighbors wherever he went.
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Charlotte Bychinski; his brothers, Marcel Bychinski and Larry Bychinski; his sisters, Pat Eckardt, Terri Sprouse, and infant sister Rita; and the love of his life, Sharon.
He is survived by his daughter, Tina (Eric) Sukup; his son, Todd (Julie) Bychinski; his grandchildren, Drew, Bryson, Connor, Addison, Brendan, Ryleigh, Miranda, and Jaimie; and his great-grandchildren, Margaret and Evelyn; brother David Bychinski; and sister Lucy Kurszewski.
