Daniel C. Hanson

Wisconsin Rapids - Daniel C. Hanson, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at Edenbrook.

Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Dr. Michael Hanson will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation for relatives and friends will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Saturday at the church.

Dan was born October 8, 1934 in Viroqua, WI to Clarence and Beatrice (Hahn) Hanson. He met the love of his life when she worked at his parents' supper club in De Soto, WI. Dan and Rita were united in marriage on November 26, 1955. The couple were blessed with two sons, Brian and Erik.

He was an architect, primarily developing banks and commercial properties, and was a member of the American Institute of Architects. Local projects he led include construction of the US Bank building on 8th Street and remodeling of their downtown location. In recent years he also served on the City of Wisconsin Rapids Planning Commission.

Dan enjoyed a long and active retirement with many interests. He and Rita loved to travel and most recently he shared special trips with both sons. Dan and Erik toured Norway, including a visit to the family hometown of Lom. He and Brian explored America along Route 66 in a red Corvette. Aviation was another interest. His first solo flight was a proud accomplishment for him. Volunteer service included various roles at Immanuel, Ruby's Pantry, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Visiting with friends and genealogy were also important parts of his social nature, best expressed with his personal mantra: "If I made one person smile today, I did my job!"

Dan is survived by his sons, Brian (Thea) Hanson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Erik (Sayaka) Hanson of Woodinville, WA; grandchildren, Michael (Kristen) Hanson of Green Bay, WI, Patrick Hanson of Madison, WI, Danji Hanson and Niji Hanson of Woodinville, WA; and great-grandchildren, Kathryn Hanson and Nathan Hanson of Green Bay, WI; sister-in-law, Janet Beffa of LaCrosse, WI and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Rita.

Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School or Meals on Wheels (Aging & Disability Resource Center - Central Wisconsin.)
