Gilbert was born April 20, 1933 in Arpin, WI to Gilbert Sr. and Ruth (Brehm) Tomfohrde. He graduated from Auburndale High School. He served his country in the National Guard prior to enlisting in the United States Army where he served from 1953-1955, attaining the rank of Corporal.

He was united in marriage to Carol Joy Lubeck on June 15, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper. They were blessed with 64 years together.

In 1960, Gilbert and Carol bought a farm with 50 acres of woods. They milked cows for several years and raised beef cattle. Gilbert worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. as a millwright in paperboard products, Consoweld, and the Biron Division, retiring in 1989. He continued to farm in retirement.

He was very involved with the Vesper Lions Softball league, taking on tasks from scheduling to grounds maintenance. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper where he served as trustee for many years. He enjoyed his time in the woods cutting firewood and making trails for his ATV. He also enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren about fishing. He was an avid Packer and Badger football fan.

Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Carol; three daughters: Jennifer (Steve) Pernsteiner of Inverness, FL, Cynthia (Larry) Lutz of Larkspur, CO, and Patti (Andre) Nicholas of Argyle, TX; six grandchildren: Andrew Pernsteiner, Rachel (Chris) Beckner, Desiree (Michael) White, Nicholas (McKenna) Nicholas, Dallas (Sydney) Nicholas, and Morgan Nicholas; six great-grandchildren: Peyton, Preston, Sophie, Guinevere, Kiera, and Maeve; two brothers: Ronald (Carol) Tomfohrde of Vesper and David (Marilyn) Tomfohrde of Hinsdale, IL; one sister, Marlene (James) Fulton of Wisconsin Rapids; nieces, nephews, and cousins. My family grew up in Arpin. We were the three Robinson girls, Kay, Gail and Toni. Our father was Edwin Robinson. We send our condolences to Marlene, and all the Tomfohrde family. We have many memories of time spent at the baseball games where all the boys played, riding the school bus, and going to high school with the Tomfohrde kids. May God's Blessings be with you all. ~ Gail Robinson-Lasecke
