Brian Carter Obituary
UTICA – Mr. Brian R. Carter, age 61, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Utica on December 13, 1963, Brian was the son of the late Michael C. Carter, Sr. and Bernice J. Williams. He was a proud graduate of J.F.K. High School/Class of 1982.
In earlier years, Brian shared a relationship with Nicole Dorsey, a union that brought them the cherished gifts of a daughter and twin sons. Later, he found lasting companionship with Ursel Butler, with whom he shared countless beautiful memories.
Brian once held a position at the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center in the Environmental Services Department. He later brought his strong work ethic to St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, before transferring to Wynn Hospital at its inception, where he continued his service in Environmental Services. Hardworking, dependable, and loyal to a fault, Brian remained committed to his work until the day he was called home.
Outside of work, Brian lived life with joy, rhythm, and heart. Known to many as DJ "Dr. Feelgood," he had a deep love for music-listening to it, spinning it, and most of all, sharing it with others. He thrived in the company of others, loved celebrating life's special moments, and had a natural gift for uplifting the atmosphere wherever he went.
Brian embraced his role as the patriarch of his family with great pride and devotion. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was never happier than when surrounded by them. His sharp humor, dry wit, and signature sarcasm left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He also enjoyed visits to Turning Stone Casino with his loved ones-especially the excitement of playing the slots.
Wherever there was water, Brian found peace-taking in the scenery and reflecting quietly. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he was rarely seen without his beloved "Terrible Towel." His favorite sayings, "Hootty Hoo" and "It's all good," will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
He is survived by his love, Ursel Butler; daughter, Jasmine R. Richard and William Liggins; sons, Brian R. "Lil Brian" Richard and his fiancée, Holly Bennett, and Brandon D. Richard and his fiancée, Catherine Gerena; beloved grandchildren, Marquavis Ruffin, Prince Liggins; Brian Richard, Jr., Darquell Carter, Kayden Richard, Kayson Richard, Kaylynn Richard; Ja-niah Richard, and Milan Richard. He cherished the memory of his granddaughter, Arionna Nicole Richard, who passed away on November 9, 2018 at the age of 3. Also surviving are his siblings, Malina L. Carter, Lucille Carter, Lauri A. Carter, Montreavae Carter, Lance Carter, and Jesse Pittman III. He fondly remembered his brother who preceded him, Michael Charles "Chuck" Carter. He leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, especially acknowledging Shi-Ayla Watson; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; aunts and uncle, Della M. Williams, Forestine Williams, Maisa Laureen Young Williams, and Paul D. Williams; and cousins. Brian was blessed with the friendship of Kenneth "Keke" Lacy, Mike Lacy, Bryant "O.B." Clarke, Charles "Chuck" Howard, and Richard "Pecos" Gibbs, Jr. He was additionally predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Silas and Queen Esther (Young) Williams; uncles, Silas Williams, Jr., and Joseph N. Williams, Sr.; and his dear friend, Bryson "Big B" Collins.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Utica Fire Department Rescue One and the Utica Police Department for their valiant efforts.
