Joyce Lanphere Obituary

Joyce E. Lanphere, 80, of East Herkimer, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with her loving family by her side, tending to her care. Joyce was born on July 1, 1945, in Utica, a daughter of the late Norris and Rita (Lacomb) Bronson. Joyce lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a commitment to doing things the right way. She attended Poland Schools and held various roles throughout her life. She spent many years as a waitress, a job in which she truly excelled and took great pride. Later, Joyce owned and operated the Adirondack Country Store, where she met countless people who came through the doors whom she always greeted with a smile. She and her family worked together in the store, sharing many fun times and creating lasting memories. She eventually retired as a bank teller at NBT in Herkimer where she cherished the friendships she formed with her bank family. Joyce was the devoted mother of four children, two of whom-Connie (Peck) Madison and John Peck-predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Carol Stock, and by Keith Lanphere, the father of her two surviving children. She is survived by her son Keith Lanphere Jr.; her daughter, Colleen (Martin) Denapole; her grandchildren, Bella and Ben, Sheila (Puneeth) Madison and Matthew Dyn, who brought her endless joy, and beloved granddaughter Shelby Herringshaw, whom she raised and shared a special bond with. Joyce is also survived by her close friend, Linda Lanphere, with whom she shared many laughs and wonderful memories; her brother-in-law, Gene Stock; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joyce was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and found happiness in life's simple pleasures-feeding the birds in her backyard, keeping a spotless home and yard, and taking quiet pride in doing things with care and precision. She was known for always doing her best regardless of how big or small the task, her sense of humor, and her unwavering love for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, and her memory forever cherished by those who knew and loved her. Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, 7479 Main Street, Newport are Monday, October 20 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Herkimer Fire Department, P.O. Box 95, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
