Mary Jean York

Mary Jean (Penner) York, 92, passed away on March 6, 2025 at The Masonic Care Community where she had resided for the last two years.
Jean was born April 24, 1932, the youngest daughter of Fay and V. Marie (Kemp) Penner. She was raised in Solsville, NY, alongside her three brothers, Kenneth, Guy and Donald, all of whom predeceased her. She was a 1950 graduate of Madison Central School. On April 12, 1952, she married Mahlon A. York of Madison, and shared a union of 68 years prior to his death in October 2020. Jean spent many years as a homemaker, and also worked for a number of years at the Lutheran Home prior to her retirement, and at Chicago Pneumatic early in her marriage.
Jean and Mahlon were true partners, and they enjoyed many summers at their camp on Morehouse Lake in the Adirondacks, at home, raising Hereford cattle and running the family farm as a team. She was always happiest when she could be outside mowing lawns, tending to her flowers, or just enjoying the fresh air while sitting on the back deck with her dogs. She was the easiest person in the world to love, and her potato salad, smile, and hugs are among the things we'll miss most.
Survivors include daughters Lynne Olivier of Clinton, and Nancy Clark of Sherrill, grandchildren Steven O'Donnell (Priscilla Paluck) and son Owen, Jennifer O'Donnell (David Dinigro) and daughter, Eliza, Rebecca Olivier, Allison Olivier (Austin Mazuzan), Andrea Clark (Jonathan Parad) and son Bennett, Gregory (Caitlyn) Clark and daughters Penelope and Zayda, and Kelsey Clark.
A Graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family, at Graham Cemetery in Hubbardsville, NY under the direction of Burgess and Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St, Hamilton, NY.
There will be no public calling hours.
The family would like to thank the entire staff on the Windham Household at the Masonic Care Community for their exemplary care that they provided for Mary Jean over the last two years, as well as her granddaughter, Jennifer, for never waning in her involvement in her care and always ensuring her well-being.
