Michael J. Reinhardt

TOWN OF SCHUYLER – Michael J. Reinhardt, 78, of Spain Gulf Road, passed away on August 19, 2025, at his home with his family by his side. Mike was born on January 21, 1947 in Utica, the son of the late Charles and Charlotte (Wells) Reinhardt. He graduated from Whitesboro High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1966 and served as a heavy equipment mechanic with the 809th Engineers during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1969 at the rank of SP4. On August 28, 1971, Mike was united in marriage with the former Jean M. O'Shea at St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Mike was a lifelong mechanic. He owned and operated Mike's Auto Repair in the town of Schuyler for several years and was last employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the NYS Department of Transportation, retiring in 2009. Mike enjoyed hunting, woodworking, snowmobiling, riding ATV's and spending time with his family. Mike is survived by his wife, Jean, of nearly 54 years, three children, Heather (Art) Briggs, Kenneth (Amanda) Reinhardt, and Lisa Reinhardt; four sisters-in-law, Tina Laurie, Candy O'Shea, Rita (David) Terrazas and Tammy (Ben) Bialek; his mother-in-law, Jean O'Shea; eight grandchildren, Kala, Tyler, Hannah, Holly, Sheala, Miranda, Jayden and Charles; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Robert Reinhardt; and a sister-in-law, Laverne Reinhardt. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. John's Church in Newport, on Tuesday, August 26 at 10:00 am with Rev. Justin Thomas, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Newport, where Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport. There will be a celebration of life for family and friends at Mike's home following the burial service for those wishing to attend. Mike's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Syracuse VA Medical Center and Hospice & Palliative Care.
