Shirley Abbott Obituary
Shirley L. Abbott, 87, of Eaton Brook Rd., passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton. She was born March 27, 1938 in Hamilton, daughter of the late Percy and Louise (Kling) Sternburg. She graduated from the Morrisville-Eaton School System. On February 23, 1957, in Clockville she was united in marriage to Edwin A. "Pete" Abbott, a union of over 54 years until his passing on June 14, 2011.
Shirley was employed at Thermold Corp., Manlius and Canastota until her retirement. During this time, she enjoyed gardening but most importantly spending more time with her family. She loved and cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley showed compassion and kindness to everyone she met. During her illness, she was known for her infectious smile and giggles.
Surviving are her children, Edwin "Joe" and Sandra Abbott, Jr., and William Abbott all of W. Eaton, Donna Girard, Kim and Bryan Clement-Eldridge and Karen and Scott Holbert all of Morrisville; Grandchildren, Brandy (Jed) Hafelin of Brookfield, Rebecca Abbott of Hamilton, Joseph (Adam) Abbott, Vernon, Allan (Elizabeth) Abbott, Jr., of W. Eaton, Jessica Abbott and Kayla Abbott both of Hamilton, Jennifer (Steve) Kupiec of Morrisville, Amanda (Shane) Chambers of Canastota, Danielle (Josh) Boyden of Morrisville, Dana Eldridge of S. Glens Falls, Travis Eldridge of Morrisville, Kasey (Dan) Barrett of Cassville, Scott (Morgan) Holbert, Jr., of Waterville, David Holbert of Bouckville; 19 great grandchildren, a great granddaughter being born in August and a great great grandson being born in May; Brother-in-law, Donald Abbott of Avon; her sister-in-law and best friend, Lucy Colvin of Perryville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Allan Abbott, son-in-law, Peter Girard, daughter-in-law, Ruth Abbott two brothers, Bill Gaylord and Ray Sternburg.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the Faith Baptist Church, Cambridge Ave., Morrisville, NY 13408.
Burial in Erieville Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 2 to 4pm prior to the service at the church.
Contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to, Crouse Community Center Activities Fund or Community Memorial Hospital Foundation, envelopes will be available at the church.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Crouse Community Center for their care and kindness they showed during her long stay. We would also like to thank Community Memorial Hospital for all they did for both Shirley and the family during her short stay.
