Steven Olmstead Obituary
WHITESBORO/FAIRFIELD, IA - Steven Brian Olmstead, age 74, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, after a courageous fight with multiple myeloma and amyloidosis.
Born in Utica on January 5, 1951, Steven was the son of Lynda (Collella) Olmstead and the late Dean Olmstead. Raised in Whitesboro, he graduated from Whitesboro Central School in 1969 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from SUNY Cortland in 1973.
Steve eventually settled in the small town of Fairfield, Iowa, where he earned a Master's degree in Business Administration. He worked in sales for most of his career. A spiritual seeker, Steve also pursued a higher state of consciousness through meditation and mindfulness, and became an instructor of Transcendental Meditation. He was a kind and gentle man who helped each of his friends recognize their importance to him and to this lifetime. His life in Fairfield was filled with many friendships. Time and again, Steve was described as a best friend and one of life's greatest blessings.
Throughout his life, Steve was an avid golfer, spending countless hours on the golf course with many of his closest friends. He was also a devoted fan of both college and professional football. As well, Steve enjoyed good food and truly enjoyed coming back home to the Utica area to sample all of his favorite dishes.
He is survived by his mother, Lynda Olmstead; sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne and Andrew Morgan; nieces and nephews, Garrett and Stephanie Morgan, Emily Gravett, Ben and Nicole Morgan, and Mackenzie and Tommy Harrington; along with great-nieces, Lillian, Evelyn, and Nina Morgan, Essie Gelani; great-nephew, Sammy Morgan; a very special godson, Corey Morrow; and many cousins. He is also leaving behind so very many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Dean Olmstead; and his twin sister, Sharon.
Much gratitude is extended for all of the calls, cards, texts, and video messages sent by so many from Fairfield and all across the country. A very special thank you to Susan, Ed, Cliff, Nick, and Miriam for all of the support they've shown both Steve and our family through this difficult time.
The family will celebrate Steve's life privately, enjoying all of his favorite Utica food, desserts, and laughter. There will also be a special ceremony held back in Fairfield with his dearest friends. Condolences may be sent to Lynda Olmstead, 3304 Centennial Circle, Utica, NY 13502 or Suzanne Morgan, 29 Crestview Drive, Whitesboro, NY, 13492.
