Larry Horton Obituary

Larry Earl Horton, of Chalmers, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his residence with his beloved wife at his side. He was 79.

Larry was born to Earl William and Helen Grace Horton, who preceded him in death.

On February 23, 1969, Larry married the love of his life, Helen Darlene VanLaere Horton. Together they shared a lifetime of love, family, hard work, and cherished memories.

Larry was a farmer his entire life, a calling he deeply loved and took great pride in. In addition to farming, he worked for 20 years at Purdue Village as a groundskeeper, a job he was especially proud of. He loved farming and mowing and was most proud of teaching all of his grandchildren how to drive-starting them on a John Deere lawn mower and eventually moving them up to the farm truck.

He had an interest in antique tractors and cars. Larry and his father restored a 1929 Ford Model A that they brought home in pieces from a farm auction. It is a treasured family heirloom that has been used at many family events and is a source of great pride for him.

Larry was a devoted father and was very involved in his daughters' 4-H years, helping them show swine. The family often laughed about staying at the "Pig Hilton" at the State Fairgrounds. As a family, they shared many memories through camping, fishing, and snowmobiling trips while the girls were growing up.

Larry and Darlene enjoyed traveling together, including trips to Alaska and Hawaii, cherishing their time side by side. To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, the entire family took a Disney cruise, creating a memory that will forever be treasured.

Larry was known as a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words were meaningful and powerful. This quiet strength is something his family will always remember.

He was a member of the Wolcott Lions Club and Badger Grove Baptist Church and a Euchre club with his wife.

Larry leaves behind his beloved wife, Helen "Darlene" Horton; two daughters, Margo Denner (Bill) of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Melissa Paprocki (John) of Goshen, Ohio; four grandchildren, Austin Paprocki, Nathan Paprocki, Allison Paprocki, and Nicholas Denner; siblings Karen Burns of Wolcott, Indiana, Brenda Haynes (Larry) of Monticello, Indiana, Sandra Alumbaugh (Dave) of Terre Haute, Indiana, and David Horton (Deborah) of Lafayette, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Please join us to honor Larry's life at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, located at 1671 W. 350 North, West Lafayette, Indiana 47906.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and again on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Services will take place beginning at 12:00 p.m., with burial immediately following at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Larry's honor to the White County Antique Power Association.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Franciscan Hospice and their entire team, with special gratitude to Beth and Hannah for their generous, compassionate care of Larry.
