Rex Shipplett

Rex Alwyn Shipplett, 72, of West Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 24, 2025. He was born in Galesburg, Illinois on September 11, 1953 to the late Rex Alwyn and Bernita (Amyx) Shipplett. After graduating from Abingdon High School in Illinois, Rex earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois, where he was also a member of their marching band. He spent over 37 years working as a Process Chemist, first at Great Lakes Chemical and then at SSCI. He was married to Sue Ellen Molter in Wolcott, Indiana on June 7, 1980, and she survives. They were active members of Faith Church in Lafayette. Rex was always very family-oriented. He enjoyed listening to music, particularly from the Big Band era, and also played the saxophone. He also enjoyed serving his church in any capacity that he could, and participated in their men's bible study. In addition to his wife, Sue Shipplett, Rex is survived by his daughter, Emily (Ben) Huckstep; sister, Debby Bartscht; brother, Bob (Teresa) Shipplett; and granddaughter, Leah Huckstep. Visitation will be held from 12pm – 2pm on Monday, November 3, 2025 at Faith Church, followed immediately by a Funeral Service at 2pm officiated by Pastor Rob Green. Rex will be laid to rest at a later date at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Cemetery.
