William Lindblom Obituary

William "Bill" David Lindblom, age 72, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He was the son of William and Barbara Lindblom of Detroit, Michigan. To understand his life is to know this: he was a defender. A protector. A father to the fatherless. A man whose love wasn't performative or polished, but real, honest, and unwavering. If you were hurting, he found you. If you were hiding, he reached out. If you were lost, he pointed you home. For 39 years, he served as the Chief Investigator in the Tippecanoe County Public Defender's Office-not just doing a job, but carrying the burdens of others with quiet strength and unwavering compassion. He approached every case with a deep sense of justice and a commitment to uncovering the truth, often standing in the gap for those who had no one else in their corner. Before that, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force and later worked at Charter Hospital, Child Protective Services, and Cary Home for Children-where he met the love of his life, Tammey. They served side-by-side as house parents for six years, building a life rooted in sacrificial love and a shared calling to care for those in need of hope, direction, and someone who truly believed in them. He didn't just believe in justice-he lived it. But not in the way that makes headlines. He lived it in quiet conversations, in groceries left on doorsteps, in jobs given to those who couldn't find one, in a home that was always open. He could read people like an open book and, without judgment, speak the kind of hard truth that reminded you that you were made for more. He never asked anyone to be someone else-only to be who God created them to be. He engaged his faith with his whole mind, living out the words of Micah 6:8: to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God. He showed us what pure religion is: to care for orphans and widows in their distress (James 1:27). He was kind, strong-willed, loving, dry-humored, and-depending on the day-a little argumentative. He never missed a game, whether it was his kids', grandkids', or even a stranger's little league team at a random field. He loved Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and classic shows like The Andy Griffith Show. He gave extravagant, thoughtful gifts, loved deep conversations, and always kept you guessing: Was he joking? But most of all, he was present. Always. He didn't just show up for his family-he shaped them. He loved without conditions, raised without pressure, and served without recognition. He lived his life as a covering for others, and his legacy is this: he bore burdens until the end. He loved until the end. He protected until the end. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Tammey; their children, Josh (Aurielle) Lindblom and Caitlin (Mark) Walker; and his six grandchildren, whom he loved fiercely: Presley, Palmer, Murphy, Monroe, Saul, and River. He is also survived by his brother, Kit (Barbara) Lindblom. Each one carries forward the faith, integrity, and compassion he instilled. His game of hide-and-seek with death is over-and death did not win. He was found-by Light. By Life. By Jesus. And now, we believe the voice of the Father is speaking over him: "This is my son, whom I love. With him, I am well pleased." In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the charity of your choice in Bill's name. Visitation: Thursday, April 24 from 5:00–7:00 PM Funeral Service: Friday, April 25 at 11:00 AM Both will be held at Calvary Church, 310 Kalberer Road, West Lafayette, Indiana. To Bill´s family....I only today hear that Bill has left our sides. My son was one of the invisible people that Bill cared for so deeply and without question. Bill touched so many in a honest and humble manner....I met with Bill in March and he never once indicated he was ill or was talking with Death. But this does not surprise me. A true man who took Christ at his Word; don´t judge, open your heart and arms, be there for those in need, treat others how you would like to be treated. What a blessing to so many. I know without a doubt that you must turn and anticipate his being there or just in the other room. Cherish your memories for they are of a rare and precious man! What a gift to have had time with him!

Tammey and family. We experienced Bill´s loving heart in many ways throughout the years that we´ve known you all. So many fond memories at baseball games and he was always so kind and helpful to Neil during his troubles. I know Neil had the greatest respect for him. Bill positively impacted so many people, too numerous to count. You all are in my prayers. May God wrap his loving arms around you all.

Tammey, Caitlin, Josh & family,
I feel so very honored to have met Bill (& Tammey) during youth group at Otterbein United Methodist Church, way back in the 80's. Good Heavens, Bill was headed for Sainthood way back then for having the patience to teach & "entertain" teenagers every Wednesday evening through the Lords words. Then, I worked with him at Charter Hospital where he told me all about his little boy, Josh, who took his football everywhere. Right there in the hallway at Charter Hospital, Bill threw the football to Josh and Josh ran for a touchdown. Bill smiled and giggled with love & pride. The patients, all ages, would hollar at him when he walked by as if he was one of their family members, best friend, and/or a hero. "Hi Bill! Hey, hey Bill! or Bill, Bill, Bill, B-I-LLLL!!" He had the patience of Job. And many years later, I had the pleasure of seeing him again, 1-2 times a month for 4-5 years, through our mutual work, me in nursing and Bill in the public defender office. There he was, again, very humble while assisting those in need. He was not a fancy, flashy person, even though he had the right to be, in my small opinion. He would tell me about the latest caper of one of his grandkids with a twinkle in his eye. There was something about him that drew me in. Anyway, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Continued prayers for you all. Heaven gained an Angel and as it was God's plan. I'm overly certain that Bill planned on Heaven, too.

I went to LHW with Bill. He was a great athlete and also one of the most popular guys. It sounds like LHW had a great influence on his life having him reach out to the needy, the ones that just needed the extra help thru life and Bill was able to provide that. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. RIP Bill

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bill and have long considered him one of my favorite people for so long. He was full of compassion and more often an all around fun guy to talk to. He will be greatly missed!
