Captain Curtis J. Angst was among those who tragically lost their lives in the recent aircraft accident over Western Iraq, while serving as a KC-135 pilot in support of Epic Fury. He was doing what he loved most-flying and serving alongside the men and women he cared so deeply about.
He was born September 10, 1995 in Xenia, Ohio the son of Lisa (n. Brenna) Angst and Matt Angst.
Curtis lived a life defined by service, generosity, and a genuine love for people. He was dedicated to serving his country. He deeply valued the people he had the privilege to serve alongside.
Those who knew Curtis remember his steady kindness and the joy he carried with him everywhere he went. He was always ready to help someone else before himself. His constant smile and instantly recognizable laugh made people feel welcome, valued, and part of something bigger.
He was deeply devoted to his wife, Mary (n. McCarty) Angst, also survived by his parents, and a sister, Jessica Angst. Curtis was a loving brother, son, and husband, as well as a devoted friend. Beyond his commitment to his country, Curtis had a profound passion for traveling, exploring the outdoors, and music.
Our hearts are with the family and friends of his fellow crew, and we share in their sorrow.
Curtis was a Graduate of Wilmington High School, class of 2014; the University of Cincinnati where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Curtis started his military career while in college by serving as a Vehicle Maintenance Technician at the 123rd Air Control Squadron in Blue Ash. He finished Undergraduate Pilot training in 2022 at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi and rose to the rank of Captain while flying the KC135 at the 121st Air Refueling Wing.
Burial services with full military honors will be conducted at the Dayton National Cemetery, Friday, April 3, 2026. Family, close friends and military members are invited to attend. Following the services at the cemetery on Friday, there will be a Celebration of Curtis's Life held at the Roberts Centre, 123 Gano Road, Wilmington, OH 45133 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.
