Bernadette Lafond

CUMBERLAND – Bernadette Lafond, 96, passed away Sunday at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Donat Lafond Sr.

Born in the Manville section of Lincoln, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Emilienne (Beaudoin) Lemoine. She resided in Cumberland for the past 66 years, previously residing in Manville.

She was employed as a cook at the Ann & Hope of Cumberland for 21 years, until her retirement in 1983.

She is survived by her four sons; Arthur Lafond (Deborah) of Maine, Robert Lafond (Mimi) of New Hampshire, Richard Lafond (Lorna) of Cumberland and Donat Lafond II (Debra) of Lincoln; three daughters, Lorraine Ribeiro (Richard) of Cumberland, Denise Montminy (Arthur) of Massachusetts and Marguerite Savickas (Raymond) of Cumberland, with whom she resided; one brother, Conrad Lemoine of Arizona; 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Gerard Lafond and Jeanne Kimbrell. She was also the sister of the late Maurice, Normand, Lucien and Roland Lemoine and Cecile Lambert.

Family and friends are invited to Bernadette's Life Celebration, to be held Wednesday with Visiting Hours from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Historic St. Joseph Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Manville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904, or a charity of your choice.
