Brother Edward C. Breault S.C.

1929 - 2016

PASCOAG - Brother Edward C. Breault, S.C., 87, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Retirement Community, Pascoag, RI, died after a brief illness on December 30, 2016, at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket, RI. Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Edward and Rita (Beauregard) Breault.
Brother Edward entered the Brothers of the Sacred Heart January 11, 1946 at Harrisville, Rhode Island. He pronounced his first vows at Mt. St. Charles Academy in 1948 and his perpetual vows at Mt. St. Charles Academy, Woonsocket, RI, in 1954. In 2013, he celebrated his Sixty-Fifth Anniversary of Religious Profession.
Brother Edward completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama in 1951, a Bachelor of Arts at the University of South Africa in Johannesburg in 1963.
Brother Edward served in assignments as a teacher in New England at Mt. St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, RI, St. Louis School, Nashua, NH, St. Dominic High School, Lewiston, Maine, Cormier High School in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada. In 1957, he began a 17-year assignment in Africa, serving primarily in Zambia and Zimbabwe. In 1975, he returned to the United States where he served in various capacities as an administrative assistant, including as Provincial Secretary. He retired in 2009 at the residence in Pascoag.
Brother Edward was a published poet, writing in both Spanish and English under the nom de plume of Brother Fidelis. He was also an accomplished musician, playing wind instruments at the liturgy for many years.
Brother Edward is survived by his sister, Florence Shakan, of Cumberland, RI, his brother, Fr. Charles Breault OMI, of Lowell, MA, his brother, Br. Robert Breault SC, of Pascoag, RI, a brother, Richard Breault, of the Philippines, and his sister-in-law, Joan (Armand) Breault, of Springfield, MA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Armand.
The wake will be held at the Provincial House, 685 Steere Farm Road, Pascoag, RI, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in the Chapel of the Retirement Center in Pascoag at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Brothers' Cemetery in Pascoag.
