Frank Eddleston Obituary

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Frank W. Eddleston, 94, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2018 at the Saint Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was son of the late Frank and Grace (Mealey) Eddleston. He was the beloved husband of the late Elsie (MacKinnon) Eddleston and father of Sandra (Eddleston) Farnum and her husband Jonathan K. Farnum, Linda E. Eddleston, and Gail C. Eddleston. He was the younger brother of Earl B. Eddleston.
Born in Cumberland, RI, he attended Woonsocket schools before entering the US Navy in 1942 soon after World War II started. He served on battleships and destroyers and was a proud recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation for distinguished service in operations against submarines.
After the war, he lived in Cranston where he and Elsie raised their family. He worked for the jewelry manufacturing industry in RI: at National Chain Co. he apprenticed as a toolmaker and chain machine operator. He worked at Armbrust Chain Co., starting as a toolmaker and then as a supervisor; at National Chain as plant supervisor; and at Sweet Mfg. in Mansfield, MA starting as Vice President and retiring as President in 1983.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed boating, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling, square-dancing, golfing and riding his Harley. For over 25 years he wintered in Vero Beach, Fl. He was rarely without a dog by his side or on his lap. He enjoyed a Manhattan when dining out or an afternoon cocktail of Canadian Mist over ice.
In addition to his daughters and brother, he leaves a large and beloved family: Grand- children Robert Eddleston, Heather Riley, Erica Tschirley, David Farnum, Sara Stein, Amy Walsh, Lori Gilchrist, and Jessica Mihalko; Great grandchildren Evan, Heidi, Holly, Michael, Harrison, Elsie, Avery, Mia, Nicholas, Jackson, and Benjamin. He was also the step-grandfather of Elisabeth Farnum and Polly Fraga and step-great grandfather of Simone, Elise, Sophia, Jonathan and Luke.
He was also married to the late Judith (Rogers) Eddleston, and they happily resided in Sunapee, NH. He was step-father of Lisa Robles, Gregory Purrier, and Susan Stanganelli. He was step-grandfather of Alexandria, Nicholas, Alisha, Emma and Sophia. Later in life he was the dear companion of the late Rose Marie Rogers, of Wynantskill, NY. He was predeceased by his brother John L. Eddleston, and two infant great granddaughters Grace and Isabel.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 10, at the Highland Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, 1 Rhode Island Ave. Johnston at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Saint Antoine Residence, 10 Rhodes Avenue, North Smithfield, RI 02896, would be most appreciated. Condolences may be left at monahandrabblesherman.com.
