George VanDeman Obituary

BLACKSTONE - George B. VanDeman, 83, of Blackstone MA, left this earth to be with the Lord of our God on Friday, March 25th, 2022. He is the beloved husband of Sandra Nancy (Cameron) VanDeman for 54 years. He is the loving father of Shari VanDeman Eaton of Burrillville, RI, Bethany VanDeman Lagasse of Blackstone, MA, Karen King of Brookline, MA, Judy McLeod of New Hampshire and the late Barry Allen VanDeman. He is the doting grandfather of Jaclynn Silva, Cameron and Hannah Eaton, Riley Elliott, Ryan Lagasse, and Christine and John King, Ian and Conner McLeod and three great grandchildren. George, known to many of his friends as "Barry," was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 14, 1938, the son of the late Bryce and Gloria (Vallis) VanDeman. He leaves his sister, Marcie (VanDeman) Gauntlett, from West Yarmouth, MA and his two nieces.

George was a United States Navy Veteran, honorably discharged, who proudly served on the U.S.S. Trigger during peacetime. He was known to never be without his U.S. Navy Hat collection.

George graduated from Newton High School in 1956, beginning a career spanning over 55 years as an engineer, sales manager, and ultimately consulting business owner. He met the love of his life and wife, Sandy during his first job at Gamewell Inc, and continued to work for Kidde - Fenwal Inc as both an employee and under VanDeman Consulting until the age of 78. His work ethic was unparalleled as was his ability to earn trust and cultivate client relationships for both brands.

George was an avid golfer who spent years playing on leagues in and outside of Fenwal with his golfing buddies and his son-in-laws. He was a devoted New England Patriots fan, and could be seen at any sporting or music related event for any of his daughters or grandchildren. He enjoyed his summers on Cape Cod with his toes in the sand, playing beach volleyball, and drinking pina coladas. His jokes are legendary and live on through his son-in-laws, Brian Eaton, Jason Lagasse, and Jackie King. His love of life brought laughter and smiles to so many and he will be forever missed by anyone who had the pleasure to know him.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday March 29th from 5:30- 7:00pm with a Funeral Service at 7:00pm at Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St., (Rte 126) Bellingham, MA. Barry and I go way back to the 1950s and being in the same hot rod club that´s how I met him. I remember taking care of Linda Karen ann Barry Allen when they were younger. I forgot we both worked at Gamewell as did my grandfather. We had wonderful times together and I will never forget them. I only found out about his passing today and I am very sorry for his families loss. Walter informed me of his passing. I will always remember him fondly for all the good times we had so many years ago, RIP BARRY Your friend Carol
