Gwendolyn Vaughan Obituary
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Gilmore and Dorothy (Adams) Maynard Sr. A graduate of Central High School in 1951. She was employed as a cytology technician at Rhode Island Hospital for 26 years prior retiring in 1996.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for over 30 years prior to joining St. James Baptist Church, and was a member there for 27 years, where she served as First lady. She was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and Deaconess Ministry, and the the founder of the Sisters in Christ Women's Ministry. She was also was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.
Besides her husband, Rev. Dr. Sammy C. Vaughan, she is survived by her three sons, Vincent Vaughan and his wife Denise of Bristol, Richard Vaughan and his wife Aleshia of Providence, and Michael Vaughan and his wife Cheryl of Newark, Del., and one daughter, Vianne Olds and her husband Henry of Franklin, Va.; one sister, Irene Moore of New Jersey; five brothers, Richard Maynard of Providence, Gilmore Maynard of Warwick, Alan Maynard of Rumford, Dennis Maynard of Rehoboth, Mass., and Stephen Maynard of Upper Marlboro, Md.; six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Robert Maynard and Vioris Ferrell-Crouch.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at 10 a.m. in St. James Baptist Church, 340 South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial will be in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited; calling hours will be held in St. James Baptist Church on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the JW Henson Scholarship Fund would be appreciated.

To Rev.Sammy Vaughn and his loving family. Our hearts were heavy to hear of Gwen passing, it's bitter sweet to know she is at peace with God, yet we will miss her here. Many wonderful memories pass through our minds going back to 55 Vandzandt St. but how blessed are we to have known her and to call her friend. Her loving and kind spirit has touched the friendship we have shared and will forever cherish. We love you all and will pray for the comfort of your hearts and ours.

Our beautiful sweet angel Gwendolyn Vaughan has left us for her heavenly home up above. She was a beacon of strength for all of us in the Maynard family. She really was our family hero. We all loved her, and we always looked to Gwen when we needed guidance or advice. The Maynard family members she leaves behind are all grieving, We want everyone to know that we all are in deep sorrow and we are sad. We will mostly miss the kindness, grace, faith, and powerful strength that Gwendolyn Vaughan displayed over the past 60 years while she guided the lives of all her Maynard family members here on earth. Rest in peace Gwen, we truly loved you, and we surely will miss you. Now we pray that the light you shined in our lives will serve you well up in Heaven above. To, our beloved brother, Rev. Sammy Vaughan, we pray that GOD gives you the strength to carry on with your ministry in her absence in good health, with an abundance of peace, prosperity and tranquility in your future.
